Artist Statement for Marc Ross
My paintings are not about the next thing. They are not about style. They are not about fashion or commerce. My paintings are about the subtle and the sublime--a continuation of the spirit inherent in the work of Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt, and Agnes Martin. My work is intended to engage a dialogue between the viewer and the phosphene-like images that radiate with patient contemplation--ghost images that appear at a distance and disappear at the close examination of the painted surface. My paintings are all about time.
