Artist Statement:
Statement on Art
I am what some call a natural artist. I can't even remember when I started, but in some way shape or form I was always creating. My parents weren't too thrilled when I found out that crayons looked "cool" on the long hallway of my childhood home. That's when my mom had the idea of using butcher paper for me to draw on our hardwood floors!
My personal understanding of “being an artist” means observing life and habitat around oneself, then interpeting that through your own personal experience or emotions. There is always an idea or concept aroused or inspired by an experience or other creative work I often start with a general concept but no plan really, after a work is started it usually takes a life of its own.
Concepts and ideas may take weeks to form in jotted down notes & sketches or sometimes a sudden burst of inspiration. The actual work can take just a few hours as in paintings, or days as with the details of a pen & ink/representational illustration.
Once working & inspired it feels as if my hands are being guided, or if I am moved to another ...
