Artist Statement:
About my artwork and
technique:
My work tends to be primarily
illustrative in nature. I
believe in allowing a picture
to tell a story, which is why
I am drawn to illustration and
complex still life paintings.
Because I like to develop my
artwork as quickly as
possible, I often use a dry
medium, such as soft pastel,
to create my painting. When I
want to be retrospective, I
work in oils. Due to the
protracted drying time
(especially in humid weather),
I am able to take my time and
experiment with different
styles and moods.
I use several methods to
achieve my desired effect,
depending on the subject
matter and intention. For my
illustrations, I begin with a
rough drawing , which I then
refine, scan into my computer
and blow up to the desired
size, and transfer it onto my
final substrate. My still life
paintings and landscapes are
painted directly onto my
substrate without preliminary
drawings. The still life
paintings are worked from
setups while the landscapes
may be from my memory or on
location.
My illustrations are generally
geared towards children. I am
especially fond of drawing
animals, anthropomorphic and
otherwise, for I feel an
