Artist Statement:
My name is Natasha Carr. I was born in Russia, and immigrated to the USA in 1999. By profession, I am a musician (a graduate of Astrakhan Conservatoire in the Southern part of Russia, as a pianist). All my life I worked as a musician, and I never thought that I would paint someday. One day (in May 2000), quite unexpectedly for myself, I started drawing and painting. Of course, my first attempts were very primitive, but it was the beginning of expressing myself in a different way. I consider myself as a self taught artist, because I don't have a formal art educational background. But recently, I attended a six day art workshop conducted by artist Ruben Arizpe, this being my first formal course. The result of this workshop is my copy of the still life painting of the old master of the 18th century, Luis Melendez.
For the first two years, I worked in acrylics and pastels. Now I am also painting with oils. Each painting becomes for me a journey of delight, new discovery, meditation and escape from reality into my own inner paradise. Creating art for me became an addiction. It is kind of like ...
