Artist Statement:
Children are full of personality, endearing, and free. They are pure forms of love as God intended. When I paint children whether it is in a quirky or realistic style it is my way of awakening my inner child. Through my illustrations I am able to transform into anyone, tall/short, rich/poor and I can go places I have never been before. ...

| Your Personal Biography |
I was born and raised on a beautiful Caribbean island where there were many things to see such as flamingoes, toucans, tropical fish, coconut trees and white sandy beaches. As a little girl, I enjoyed spending time outdoors. I particularly liked observing people. There were alot of characters to see on the island. For instance, there was the skilled coconut vendor, the shark and bake lady, the silly kids burying themselves in the sand, the angry moms and dads who stood watching their kids throw sand balls. I enjoyed putting these characters in my little sketchbook. The sketches were small, scrappy, pencil drawings but they helped capture the moment on paper.
Back then, my family had only one TV. There was no cable and very little need for remote controls since there was only one TV channel. It was hard to imagine how I got by in those days. I was bored most of the time and that is why I had the urge to get creative. I decided to draw my favorite cartoon characters by carefully looking at their faces on the TV screen. It was hard to draw them while they were moving but I was determined. I finally drew my favorite cartoon character, Woody Wood Pecker. I drew Woody at home, I drew Woody at school, and I made cool bookmarkers with Woody on it. The teachers liked them so much that they asked me to create my own bookmarkers to sell at a fund raising event at school. I was thrilled that people liked my drawings. I was thankful for their feedback because it has helped me develop my art into what it is today. |
