Artist Statement:
Noel A. Carmack was born in Paso Robles, California, and grew up on the central coast town of Atascadero, until 1979, when he moved to Arizona. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration from Utah State University in 1993 and went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in drawing from Utah State University in 1997.
Carmack has studied with artists James Gucwa, Glen Edwards, Joseph Mugnaini, Adrian Van Suchtelen, Gregory Schulte, and Christopher Terry. Carmack says: "The figure is often an integral part of what I have to say visually. Many of my drawings include the human form in some way."
"Over the years I have experimented with a number of drawing techniques that have aided me in achieving a desired visual image. I render the figure in a variety of ways, using classical form-building methods: modulated limbs and features, heightened value drawing, and both naturalistic and expressive painting."
"I am determined to create work that has a reverence for things that touch upon the human spirit. Most of all, I want to create images that are deeply meaningful and expressive."...
