|
Intuitive Painter/Sculptor Ben Marxhausen is a retired art professor of over 40 years. Marxhausen is Professor Emeritus of Concordia University with experience in teaching all grade levels-Kindergarten through university-including experimental work with the mentally challenged. A nationally known speaker and art educator, his works of art can be found in private collections, churches, and schools throughout the United States and beyond. He has dedicated his life to creativity and expression of spirit through art and development of art in education. As well as painting and sculpture work he continues to be very active in the art world offering consultation, lectures, and workshops to various groups. Marxhausen has had numerous articles and other works published including illustrations for children's books written by his wife, Joanne Marxhausen. Personal philosophy of art: Art is not just for the gifted or those destined for a career in one of the many expanding art fields. Art is for everyone. I believe that the goal of art in the curriculum is not to make an artist out of everyone; but rather to allow all students to discover their creativity, explore it, expand it, and use it constructively, to apreciate their Creator, His creation, and themselves and others as the wonderful creations of God that they are; to endow them with confidence in their God-given uniqueness and indaviduality and respect for that of others; to enthuse them in the use of their creativity for the welfare of the whole body of humanity and to the glory of their creator whatever their future vocation or walk of life may be. Art is an effective vehicle to learning in all subjects. Art is an invaluable way to help a student feel a part of God's word by having worked it into his soul with his hands.
