Artist Statement:
Growing up in Switzerland gave me an early appreciation for nature’s detail, beauty and lifecycle. I was fascinated by cycles that nature goes through each year. Natural history and its evolution became important to me. Often we forget to look at the detail of nature, the essence, and get lost in our busy and “fast-moving” society.
My intense traveling provoked an interest for cultural history and the migrations and rituals of animals and human beings. I am interested in following them on their journeys and incorporate this movement in my ceramic sculptures.
The Chinese Bronze Sculptures influenced me with their detailed design, ritual, quality, passion and the patience needed to accomplish. In addition, Celtic art is an important influence of my visual aesthetics. Today, our society is often dominated by mass production, fast speed and urban life. I incorporate today’s lack of attention to details. I also admire Andy Goldsworthy for his purity and process with found materials and Michelle Stuart for her representation of nature and rituals.
