Artist Statement:
90% of what I’m inspired by,
has nothing to do with the
painting world. A lot of
things I find myself doing in
the craft physical aspect of
making a painting are things I
learned from being on a movie
set or a still photographer
set.
The thing about painting for
me, the big deal about it, is
that I feel compelled to do it
every day and to do it to new
levels. To me art is a
synthesis of my inner world,
the subject or color that
inspire me, my material and
the work I put into preparing
the panel. I spend time with
each painting manually
layering and removing surfaces
of plaster, resin and varnish.
I mostly work with pastels and
ink and I know a piece is done
when it shows rich texture and
layers and it reflects a
foundation for the subject of
my work to function in their
realms of reality.
