Artist Statement:
I have been often told that my sculptures are perhaps the easiest to appreciate and the most difficult to describe of any of the works of the current group of young Iraqi sculptors. The main goal is to insure that each gives the spectator many contradictory impressions robust, calm, intense, profound, mysterious, and direct I hope that an analysis of my output will lead one in all these directions at once. Perhaps the only impression one gets from nearly all my sculptures is a sort of gentle strength.
Apart from this the common factors in my work are mostly technical ones: the subtle and precise sense of form and shape, the utilisation of space and the deceptive simplicity of expression.
The events of my life are particularly important when compared with the relatively short history of the work, for 2 dramatic and decisive events have played their role in shaping my inner development. The conclusion of the Gulf war and a 2-year stay in Libya gave me the first real chance for meditation and research, the results of which became increasingly clear as I have developed.
