Artist Statement for William Christopherson

Most of my peers would say my artwork speaks of contemporary impressionsim. Creations flowing from the Saint Lawrence, Adirondack Mountains, Thousand Islands, and east coast. Memorable, emotionally uplifting, aesthetic experiences on canvas and cold press, sometimes making subtle statements of sarcasim, humor, history, or romance here and there. I hope you enjoy these works as examples of where this artist is at up to this year - 2008. An artist does move on - grows, experiments, evolves - and surely this is where I will be heading over the next few decades. But for now, this is what I can offer the artworld.
Over the course of 2008, I will be completing new works for my "Adirondack Journey" solo exhibition in Sackets Harbor, New York - at SHAC, September, 2008. Please visit my website - http://christophersonart.net/ for information.
I do enjoy the experience of undertaking artworks 'plein air' on location - along the east coast, the Adirondack Mountains, Florida, or the Thousand Islands. I was able to complete several plein air works directly from the seashore at Fort Myers Beach this past winter, and many of my new Florida works will be posted here over the coming months.
I have come to admire the large, colorful, pallet knife oil landscapes of a relatively unknown artist of the "Taos New Mexico School" from the late 1800's -Frank T. Hutchens, and I am beginning to employ the same techniques, but in acrylics. At the same time, my medium of choice is watercolor. The challenge to do a pure watercolor enlightens and galvanizes. Indeed, this is the medium where my best works have received judging award recognition.
So, that's a little about me as an artist. I salute the creators of this art portal site, as a wonderful venue for the wide diversity of artists we have.
Thank You all."
