Artist Statement for Nicholas Skally

I am a painter of multi-layered, abstract examinations of color and form. My layering technique incorporates water, clear medium, paint, and ink, using a palette knife to enhance and affect lines, forms, and texture. Each painting is developed layer by layer, over several
weeks.

I am largely seft-taught and have been painting with
acrylic, oil, and ink for 10 years, but have just recently began
promoting my work.

Best Regards,

Nicholas J. Skally

A work of art is a world in itself reflecting senses and emotions of
the artist's world.
::: Hans Hofmann :::

I might work on a painting for a month, but it has too look
like I painted it in a minute.
::: Willem de Kooning :::

A painting is not a picture of an experience, but is the
experience.
::: Mark Rothko :::

It doesn't matter how the paint is put on, as long as
something is said.
::: Jackson Pollock :::

The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel.
::: Piet Mondrian :::

The modern artist is working with space and time, and
expressing his feelings rather than illustrating.
::: Jackson Pollock :::
