| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
The early Modernists have particularly inspired me. After academic training that included studies at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, I sympathized with the early Avant Garde and their perceived need for a reconstitution of art. I have seen a higher level of redefinition of the creative process (and product) during that period than at any other time in the history of art. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
Art was always my primary interest. I began with a great appreciation for it but also was encouraged to be involved in producing it myself. I mastered artistic disciplines, but what finally has become my primary concern is the creative impulse itself, what it is, how to experience it, and how it defines our humanity. |

| Your Personal Biography |
I began studying art at the graduate level while still in my twenties, my first area of study art history. I spent a few years as an art history adjunct and many more in the marginally or non-arts-related working world. This fueled my decision to (re)turn to studio art in my forties; I developed a portfolio and was accepted at Pratt Institute's MFA program, in printmaking. Discovering photography in the process of those studies, I have since exhibited, taught, and worked primarily in black and white analog and alternative methods photography. (I currently work in medium-format photography.) I was able to take an early retirement as I was completing my MFA, and I have since done exclusively arts-related work. As circuitous as my path to become an artist has been, I believe it has given me a vision and mastery I might not have otherwise achieved. |
