| Your Personal Biography |
For nearly four decades painting is my passion.
I was born in Istanbul, in 1963. Living in Istanbul for much of my life has inspired my life and work. Istanbul is a place where East literally meets West. It is a magical city, a fusion between old and new, modern and traditional. For me Istanbul has been a constant source of imagination and change. I experienced the chaotic energy of the city and I enjoyed the serene beauty at the same time. There are unlimited ways of describing the city. Istanbul has a million different colours and each individual sees things from a different angle. Same applies in art and painting.
I think art was in my genes. I have always been an artist. My mother was very good in painting – she still is. My father was a technical man who was very good in drawing. Both gave me the foundation in art and encoureged me to paint. Painting was the best way to be with myself, my best tool to express myself, to get others’ attention and appreciation. What else a child needs! I was creating whatever needed when playing with other children, a boat, a doll or a doctor, I was just drawing on a piece of paper. When I was a teenager I was drawing my friends’ portraits in the classroom. Years later when we met, I surprisingly found out that they all haved kept their portraits.
Painting was just a part of my life. Nothing extraordinary. Neither me nor my parents couldn’t realize that it could have been a career for me. I have always been attracted in social issues and politics so I decided to study politics in the university.
I was still painting..
My creative side led me to choose a career in advertising business. I worked with the best designers, art directors, photographers and directors for many years. All those experiences improved my creative side. The business life was so busy and painting was the best was to relax. I was taking painting courses, joining to painting ateliers to work with different artists.
I was working so hard but I was still painting..
Then I met the love of my life. I moved to Amsterdam to live with him. We got married. After quitting my job, suddenly I had time to paint as much as I want. It was freedom ! I joined art courses. I have been fortunate to study art with excellent Dutch artists. I shared the passion and enthusiasm of painting with other artists in an atelier in Jordaan / Amsterdam for 5 years. My work were exhibited in art galleries for the first time.
I had a baby but I was still painting..
In 2008, we decided to live in a small Mediterranean village and we moved to Datca. Since then I have devoted myself to painting as a full time pursuit. There are a lot of inspirations around. The landscape, the sea, the mountains, islands, sailing boats, wonderful bays and small villages, stone houses, olive trees, almond blossoms, the crazy colors of all the flowers, the land covered with poppies and daisies in the spring..
I am still painting with a lot joy.
