I work in two ways. I use
photographs as source material
(my own family photos or
images downloaded from the
internet) and paint realistic
works, usually on a small
format. An example would be
the painting "wounded child"
or "deathbed". These
particular paintings are part
of a series of 27 paintings
inspired by a reading of
"Songs of Innocence and
Experience" by William Blake.
The series evolved over a
period of a year and is a free
interpretation of the dualism
expressed in the poems. "
Night room" and "Atlantic
coast" are the result of a
more spontaneous and intuitive
way of working. Here the
paintings evolve as a result
of a combination of a visual
stimulus and the free
manipulation of the paint
surface and the elements of
the composition. I like to
alternate between the two
approaches as I find one way
of working often sheds light
on the other. My ambition is
to work towards a synthesis of
the two approaches
