Artist Statement for Pat Maertz

Pat's background is in visual and performing arts. Her early training at the Arts Educational School in England introduced her to the fine ares, music and dance. Her first career was as a performer and dance teacher.

After taking training at a business school in London, Pat immigrated to Canada and spent many years as an administrator in post-secondary education, where her artistic endeavours were relegated to random doodles in the margins of notebooks.

Pat never lost her enthusiasm for the arts. She returned to the visual arts and concentrated on painting in watercolours. She loves the challenge of working in this beautiful medium. More recently she has started painting in oils and acrylics.

Pat's art education has been mainly self-directed and she has benefited from courses and workshops offered by the art organization of which whe is member; in particular, The Federation of Canadia Artists.

Pat exhibits her work in the shows organized by the associations she belongs to and is delighted that her work has been chosen by collectors in Ottawa, Taipei, England, and Canada.
