Artist Statement for Patricia Perman

I express my art in various forms ... the ones which show my current mood/path in life. Some are with deep thoughts and feelings, some are just for fun and some just hit me by incident like the series of railroad ties. Much like how traditional canvases are affixed onto constructed and skeletal wood, the nature of the 'found object' of railroad ties, in their dense and near petrified state, appealed to me as a surface on which to paint.

These railroad ties pieces culminate from listening to particular music tracks ... sound and rhythm of my favorite songs translate into visual depictions, both direct and indirect, some overt and some implicit, onto canvas, onto the railroad tie. The lyrical association is also made from the textual contents of a song to its visual analogy. The blending of the two senses result in a canvas and wood-based art that joins two disparate mediums of art and art making…I hope you enjoy...“Patricia Perman”
