Artist Statement for Paul Blieden

|
I am a painter and photographer who lives in Manhattan Beach, California. I have been doing both since I was in high school, over forty years ago. MY photography hangs in company offices and homes across the United States. I work in both medium format and 35mm. I utilize a Canon 20D digital, a Bronica ETRS and a Canon EOS-1N. I travel throughout the United States and overseas taking photos mostly for my own enjoyment. But in the last few years I have found that many individuals like my work enough to actually want to purchase my work. What a dream to do what I enjoy and to get paid to do it.
Mostly self taught, I has learned through a lot of trial and error to see what pleases my artist's eye; and when someone tells me one of my photographic images looks like a painting, I know I have done something right.
Landscapes, portraits, wildlife are just a few of the areas that I have taken my fine art photography eye. The idea that one should specialize in the area of fine art photography is antipathetic in my view of fine art photography. I believe that once one masters the technical aspects of the camera one can produce fine art prints of high quality in any area of interest and I have many interests as varied as my life has been so far – from metrologist to engineer to investment broker and artist/photographer always.
