Artist Statement:
"When I paint, it is as if I put my hand through a wall and pull at something that is already there. The pulling is a kind of thoughtless play. The finished work feels like a part of me, I find it difficult to sell it or part from it...

| Your Personal Biography |
www.paulinevandeven.nl (homepage) Netherlands, Houthem-St.Gerlach (L) 1956, printmaker & writer of fiction. I obtained a Masters degree in economics at the University of Amsterdam and worked as a non-fiction writer and a journalist for national newspapers. I started writing fiction in 1997 and painting in 1998. From 2001 onwards I dedicate myself to writing fiction and painting.
Apart from books about techniques, I learned from love and admiration, first of Persian miniatures, later of Japanese woodblock prints and German expressionists. At this point I am very fond of the sensitive, retired intimacy of painters like Bonnard and Russian impressionists like Vasily Volkov, Vladimir Gavrilov, Oxana Sokolovskaja, Vladimir Gorb.
