Welcome to Paul Rowntree's Portfolio.
I paint grasses and reeds because they always surprise me. The closer I get to the intimate details of a landscape the more is revealed and yet a mystery remains.
Each state has it’s own particular reed or grass to offer. In Rhode Island the slender pale green grasses that turn almost white in the heat of the summer. Texas Hill Country offers up the red stalked prairie grass and in New York the lush reeds that line the ponds of the apple orchards.
And in winter everything changes.
