Artist Statement:
Painting has the capacity to
distill time like no other
image-bearer.
Time is concentrated into a
painting, seperating it from
the masses of other imagery.
I am celebrating this.
I use subtractive and
heat-induced methods to
uncover my tracks and recover
them until an image emits a
compact silence: this is the
completion of a painting.
The game of chance plays a
decisive role in my methods;
expirementation with the
physical properties of paint
is the crux of these works.
A painting is a space closed
in upon itself, not subject to
either cooling or overheating.
Beauty is in the balance of
the parts. The paradox is that
the more perfect the work, the
more clearly one feels the
absence of any associations
generated by it. The loss of
something accessible to the
senses is converted into an
encounter with
transcendence....
