I have been selling my art myself as most galleries have to charge quite a mark up in order to be financially viable. There are so many excellent artists and not enough galleries! The mark-up also means higher prices and it is important to me that I keep my ...

Themes of motherhood, the earth, and the promise of nature infuse her

Artist Statement for Pamela Brooke

"Art is an antidote for violence. It gives the ecstasy, the self-transcendence that could otherwise take the form of drug addiction, or terroism, or suicide, or warfare" These words from Rollo May, have even greater meaning in light of the world's recent events. Making art not only satisfies my deeper sense of self but it is the way that I feel most comfortable communicating my belief that all of us have an inalienable right to our own joy. There is nothing as wonderful to me than an evening spent over my drawing board, surrounded by tons of art supplies and a few good tunes playing in the background. My art falls into many categories, from abstract to outsider art, but for the most part it is all very colorful and whimsical. If I had to say what I was trying to create with my art, I would have to say a sense of hope. That there is a constant and viable sense of love and joy in the world and available to all of us. That no matter what pain and suffering may come in to our lives, there is always hope and joy available to us.
