Artist Statement for Peche Brown

PECHE B. ARTWORKS
PECHE B. ARTWORKS was launched in 1998 by artist Peche B. Brown. Peche is a Jamaican born artist turned native New Yorker. Her interest in art was peaked at a very early age. However, Peche embarked on a career in fashion design for over 10 years, prior to settling down to paint. Many of her paintings reflect her figurative fashion influence.
Peche considers herself a Renaissance woman with varied styles and themes. Her works are constantly evolving as she experiences different aspects of life in N.Y. Primarily a Figurative Realist, with works depicting such icons as Bob Marley, Erykah Badu, Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Billie Holliday, and other nationally known figures, her artworks are collected locally and internationally. Peche paints bold, colorful paintings and quilts that depict the positive influences around her.
The primary media in the paintings are acrylic and watercolor, however, Peche integrates collage, textural and other media, including pen & ink & oils. These works of art are highly collectible and the quilts make great family heirlooms. Available as originals and limited-edition reproductions, each piece is hand-signed by the artist.
One mission of Peche B. Artworks is to ensure that quality art instruction is available to children in the community. Peche has established CAE (Community Arts in Effect) a non-profit Organization that promotes fine-arts at the grass roots level, providing instruction and exposure. CAE also focuses on empowering emerging artists in the community.
