Artist Statement for Phillip Flockhart
|
|
|
A proficient artist in both two and three dimensions, I have been a practicing professional artist for thirty years, exhibited widely in the UK (Twice with the Arts Council of Great Britain 1988 and 1992 and once with the Welsh Arts Council- 1987), my work has been well received in the United States and Canada and in Europe- The Tate Britain in London and The Kunst Museum in Cologne both hold examples of my work. I have worked with the Art Director of Madame Tausauds in London and was awarded a Royal Society of Arts Commendation in 1970.
The Content of my work is concerned with the dissemination of the picture plane, investigated either through real time space in three dimensions or through the spatial qualities of colour- sometimes both- to encourage the viewer to see through and beyond the material to the mystery that lies beyond the work. Themes reflect my current interests but the content is constant.
I believe that my work draws conclusions to many questions asked by the giants that have gone before me in the 20th Century and remains exuberant, challenging and vital.
