Artist Statement:
Artist Statement: By letting
go of my story and the element
of time, I attempt to capture
the essence of reality. Arts
that transform consciousness
have been a deep interest of
mine since a young girl. I am
fascinated with the
relationship between the
viewer and the viewed, the
Seer and the seen and hope to
bring the observer into a
portal unknown and yet vastly
familiar.
As a former professional
classical Indian dancer, I
relentlessly trained to infuse
every movement with the sacred
by moving from within. Now,
as a result of disabling
chronic pain, the dance had to
stop but the movement
continues with the camera in a
distilled form.
Living a hermit’s life due to
pain allows me very narrow
windows of time to photograph.
When I do, I see a world
throbbing with energy and
color; a magical, luminescent
organism of evolving life.
Like a child at play, whirling
with the camera eliminates me
the “artist” in a fusion of
subject and object. This form
of capture takes the material
world components and by
combining color, texture,
light and form, in effect,
displays their real essence.
I believe this challenges what
we see as solid ...
