Artist Statement for Pit Kinzer

Rips, lines, holes, spots, lines - Pit Kinzer develops background into foreground. The strong treatment can often be felt in the strength of the sheet, in a exceptional tension of the curves and on its special surface. Overprint, paint over and other modifications leave the sheets sometimes look like leather. They contain and document their own history of the origin, so that the sheets themselves have an effect almost sculptural - particularly as the newest pieces of work are on stretchers and developed into wall objects. Kinzer makes woodcuts. He doesn’t just cut the wood but scratches very sensitively or reuses existing cuts of old work pads as a relief plate. Kinzer names the results “wood printings” - just wood printings. This sounds so simple and familiar as the production process appears itself. However the ease deceives. Kinzers art is based on sovereign
skills. The avoidance of the manipulation for the purposes of accentuation of structures happens very much concentrated. The wide-possible minimization of the artistic intervention marks Kinzers actions. Less and less he influences the world, accepts its pictures and intervenes by selection. The time stops. The motives continue as a notion. Kinzers subject is the transfigured reality but the reality. His art discusses space and time.
