Artist Statement:
My name is Gergo Velkov
Protopopinac.I was born in
April 20, 1946 in the village
of Protopopinci near
Dimitrovgrad where I attended
elementary school.I finished
high school in Dimitrovgrad in
1966 and college in Skoplje.I
already showed an interest in
art as a child. Later,
spontaneously, without
guidance began to paint mainly
rural scenes. Professionaly I
began to paint in 1975. Since
then I had 15 individual
exhibitions and more group.My
paintings have place in many
private collection of
sympathizers landscapes from
Belgrade, Oslo, Amsterdam,
Munich, Roma, Paris, Vienna,
Tokio, Chikago, New York...
ARTISTIC MERIT
Gergo Velkov Protopopinac
has his own secret.Perhaps it
is concealed in a fondness for
family intimacy.Possibly.Only
in this case,the need to paint
does not appear by accident,it
is not casual or
improvised.His intention is
not to change but to
recollect.Again in his
recollection he does not
insist on authenticity,but on
belief in his recollection -
which naturally differs from
memory.In this conflict -
memory and recollection -
ever-changing,we come to his
discovery.First of all -
tranquility in
nature.Silence.Then,the medium
he has used:
