Artist Statement:
I studied art in the Northwest region of the United States, the Emerald State area. This is where the unnumbered greens of creation hiccup textures from the pearl mists of winter rains so vibrantly in the spring that nightfall cannot hide the lightest shades of greens from the blankets of the hills and mountains. Here, as spring blossoms bright colors into that bouquet of green landscape, new rhythms and textures take shape and shift the lay of the land's shadows. Some colors and textures are very short lived. The scenes of the hills and valleys travel through their life cycles quickly--to look away for a moment is to lose the joy of the transition of the colors and the textures into their next level of awe.
Therefore, I use many greens and blues in my paintings. I may not start out intentionally using those colors, but I tend to conclude my work with them. Another group of colors in my paintings are light creams, taupes, and whites misting and mingling in with the bright primary colors the way the mists weave in and out of the hills and trees that dance circles around the Northwest Mountains.

| Biggest Artistic Inspiration |
Three of my elementary school teachers were my biggest inspirations toward art. They encouraged me to keep drawing, painting, seeking, and learning even when I wasn't in school. Foremost was Miss Goddard, Tielman Elementary, Fresno, CA. She would clean out her classroom cupboards of art and paper supplies at the end of every school year and take them to my family home so that we would have plenty of art supplies to see us through the summer. She continued to gift us with those supplies until I got married and moved away from my home town. Besides that, if I did run out of those pencils and paper, I used the dirt in our yard as my paper, a stick as my pencil, and water to develop my values and tones. Thank you Miss Goddard, I loved your love for us. |

| Why Did You Become An Artist |
I became an artist because I finally had the freedom to do so and the opportunity presented itself to me. Now, I give myself permission to play, to enjoy my works.
In painting, I have found that some feelings and some emotions are too big or too small to be expressed excepte in a visual expression.
We, the viewers, know what captures our heart and mind. You know IT when you see it--when you feel it kiss the back of your heart. You connect to it. You want it, and it wants you back.
Working in fine art makes my heart hungry for spiritual satisfaction. |
