Artist Statement:
I studied art in the
Northwest region of the United
States, the Emerald State
area. This is where the
unnumbered greens of creation
hiccup textures from the pearl
mists of winter rains so
vibrantly in the spring that
nightfall cannot hide the
lightest shades of greens from
the blankets of the hills and
mountains. Here, as spring
blossoms bright colors into
that bouquet of green
landscape, new rhythms and
textures take shape and shift
the lay of the land's shadows.
Some colors and textures are
very short lived. The scenes
of the hills and valleys
travel through their life
cycles quickly--to look away
for a moment is to lose the
joy of the transition of the
colors and the textures into
their next level of awe.
Therefore, I use many
greens and blues in my
paintings. I may not start out
intentionally using those
colors, but I tend to conclude
my work with them. Another
group of colors in my
paintings are light creams,
taupes, and whites misting and
mingling in with the bright
primary colors the way the
mists weave in and out of the
hills and trees that dance
circles around the Northwest
Mountains.
