Artist Statement:
I grew up all over the U.S. During this time I used Art as a traveling companion. As a child, I started with one of the children of Art, pencil. At first, I copied things I was attracted to. Weird trees, skulls, cartoons, ghosts, and strange “futuristic” machines that I’d find in comics or on television were my main sources. They were easily attainable for a child, and easily reproduced by a child discovering his sacred gift.
Flesh has played a large role in my Art to date. Our flesh, our little ‘suitcases’ that hold us together during this particular journey on earth. When the representation of flesh is produced on canvas, it has a new story to tell. It’s real, yet it’s not the flesh we truly know and experience. In this setting, it can be manipulated, pushed beyond what we know in our physical world. Flesh, joined together with the worlds and feelings that we don’t always know and see. The flesh can be married to the thoughts of our minds, the good thoughts, and the bad. At times, I channel these worlds and with paint, brush, and canvas, I allow my self ...
