Artist Statement:
Those of you who have been following my work for the last couple of years might have noticed some portraits popping on to my site. At the request of many clients I am trying a new series of human subjects. Let me know what you think.
Rachel Bernstein is a Long Island native who got her start in Florida. She is a self educated artist who, over the years, has searched for a way to express her joy and pleasure in the wonder of nature‘s gifts. Upon her discovery of digital imagery, she realized that her dream was within her grasp. Focusing her efforts exclusively on natural materials has allowed Rachel to pursue her obsession with color, form, and texture; and to bring her artistic dreams to fruition.
Rachel has been inspired and encouraged to share her love of nature by her extremely artistic family. Her mother, Nancy, and step-mother, Donna, are both professional artists; and her grandmother, Sybil, and uncle Steven, are both artists and interior designers. She has won numerous awards for her work, most recently from the Temple Terrace Fine Arts Festova;, Images New Smyrna Beach Fine Art Festival and the Villages Fine Art Festival...

FEBRUARY 27,2005 ORLANDO SENTINAL NEWSPAPER, ARTICLE FOR THE LEESBURG
FINE ARTS FESTIVAL
Rachel Bernstein’s graphic photography, which focuses on the subject of nature, is striking in its boldness and simplicity. You will immediately be impressed by the bright colors and strong, defined form of her images. It is important to Rachel Bernstein that her work is highly accessible to her viewers:
‘My work has had a wide appeal, due to its universal theme. No matter what happens in the world nature is a common thread. What I try to do with my art is to make people AWARE of NATURE. My work focuses on close-up, in-your-face flowers, fruits and veggies, that make you look at nature’s details.’
Her images magnify the natural structural beauty of the subject. She has certainly chosen a subject matter which will never go out of style, and the decorative value of nature will always be seen as a fundamental for images which hang on the walls of our homes.
Rachel Bernstein is a self-taught artist, coming from a family of eight artists, and has explored many forms of artistic expression before she settled on photography. This is certainly a genre that not only fits with her artistic vision - Georgia O’Keefe is one of her strong inspirations - but also with her expertise. Her process encompasses new technologies as well as age-old basics.
She has displayed her work in many fine art shows across Florida and the eastern seaboard, and has won numerous awards over the last few years, including, in the last year: a Merit Award at the Lakeland Arts In The Park Fine Arts Festival, October 2004; 1st Place (Award of Excellence) at the Mandarin Arts Festival, April 2003; and Best in Category (1st Place) at The Villages Fine Art Festival in January 2003; and the Patrons’ Choice Award in Palm Harbor, which she has won for the past two years. She published an article in the Imago Magazine in August 2004, profiling her work.
