Artist Statement:
I intend to start a discussion
about the paradox of how
modern manmade structures
reflect a desire to create a
space that supports life, yet
is destructive to the very
biodiversity that fuels our
existence. The use of mirror
forces the viewer to see parts
of themselves in a space that
they would otherwise never
occupy; a dilapidated
landscape where environmental
consciousness is absent. This
emphasizes the collective
effect of our actions as
individuals which we often
perceive as inconsequential to
the environment. The
abstraction of the original
photographs through overlay
and visible mirror reinforces
the idea that sustainability
is not an easily rectified
issue with one obvious answer.
The manner in which nature
reclaims abandoned spaces is
explored in the work through
the juxtaposition of natural
forms and rigidly geometric
structures.
