Artist Statement:
As a contemporary rug hooking artist, I like to challenge the medium and explore untraditional imagery and materials.
When I look at my work, I realize that I am a story teller. I build stories one loop at a time using wool, cotton and silk threads. These stories capture lost moments, express and celebrate the joy of creation with an infusion of humor.
In our busy modern lives, it is important to find time to observe the simple truths that evoke feelings, provoke memories and even transport us to a time of innocence.
My hope for this piece is that the viewers will first recognize a beauty that invites them to look further, and then find themselves lingering over the unanswered questions the piece provokes. I hope that tension stays with them long after they have stepped away.
