I was born and raised in Boston into a family of African-American artists. Art has always been around me. I create art because I am compelled to, like breathing, it is essential to my life. I am continuously intrigued by how things are put together. I enjoy slowing my mind down to contemplate the mysteries of life. My artwork helps me to be more centered and patient, to appreciate the miracles of nature, my talents and respect my limitations.
My jewelry helps to energize, bestow tranquility and enhances the inner glow of the adorned. I let the shape and colors of a gem communicate to me what metal it needs to be combined with. Sometimes a design is born from metal shapes left over from cutting out another design. Once in a while a design comes to me in a dream. Other times they float in while engaged in a mundane task.
In my music and poetry creation, I am a channel. Songs and poems come to me while I’m asleep. They always mirror my values of self-love, happiness and self-reflection. I mix together funk, jazz, hip-hop, gospel, East Indian music and more. Like a chef, I select each ingredient to complement and bring out the best in the others.
With my paintings, I become the colors, they express how I feel at that moment. From abstract to colorful nature inspired themes, they are a mix of reality and fantasy. With my photography, I capture reality and mix it with my worldview by emphasizing elements in the picture that need to be brought forward in the image. Sharing these gifts I’ve been given is my contribution to uplifting the world.
