My interest in digital art began almost ten years ago. As a photographer and a computer engineering professional, I realized the huge window of opportunity offered by the merging of those disciplines. My imagination partially limited by a mirror of reality found a strong ally in the computer technology. I discovered the ideal tool for giving my dreams and fantasies a new meaning; I got a more powerful instrument for sharing my own emotions with the public.
By generating an artwork I live the hiker’s experience : climbing is not easy, there are many rocks on my path, I sweat, sometimes I feel breathless because of the effort, I have to stop, to take a break. Nevertheless, on my journey towards the peak I meet strange creatures flying over the trees, or wandering out from the depth of a canyon, I am taken to surprising fairy-tale worlds, and just the boundaries of my imagination limit the realm of my fantasy. As I finally reach the summit of the mountain, as the exceptional vista of the valley, the tiny villages, the elaborate tapestry of fieds is offering my eyes the most stupendous view, I feel rewarded with an almost unbearable feeling of fulfilment and happiness. It is the moment to execute a couple of steps of a primeval dance and………to click PRINT.
My training in visual arts began with photography, which I took up in my twenties. Fifteen years ago I enrolled in The Professional Photography Course at the New York Institute of Photography in order to perfect my knowledge.
My basic training is however in Mechanical Engineering, a profession I was involved in for more than four decades. In the meantime photography was my main hobby and I practiced it intensely in parallel with my profession. Time spent in Canada, US and Europe enabled me to develop my skills in artistic photography and build an important photo-database.
The last years of my professional life were spent in the field of Knowledge-Based Systems, a subset of Artificial Intelligence. The contact with Computer Engineering offered me a new perspective: the incredible synergy between computer science and the visual arts. Gradually I immersed myself in the study and in the practice of Computer Art. Since retiring from engineering I began to be involved in my artwork full-time.
My photographs are the only entries I use in producing my prints. I carry out the image-manipulation by using mainly the huge potential of the Adobe Photoshop complemented by the Kai-Power Tools program; occasionally I perform electronic drawing by mouse on computer. I have only two limits in my artistic expression: my fantasy and my technical skills. I am not attached to any specific style of expression; I am not part of any …ism school even if sometimes I am under the influence of one of the great masters. My Muse is the only one who is guiding my work. Sometimes she is in a figurative- , sometimes in an abstract mood; and so am I.
My work on paper is available in two collections:
- Collection "A" - mixed media, i.e. archival Giclee prints on Somerset or Arches paper (300 or 500 g/sq.m) 19" x 23" maximum. I rework the prints using pastel colors. Therefore each copy is unique but originated from the same original . This collection is limited to 100 copies, numbered and signed by the autor and certified as a Giclee print.
-Collection "B" - on archival Glossy or Watercolor paper printed with pigment-based EPSON ink-jet UltraChrome inks, size 11" X 19" maximum. This collection is limited to 250 copies, signed and numbered by the author.
By special order I can deliver also archival prints on canvas, 19" x 23" maximum.
All my work is copyrighted and all use or reproduction without my permission is strictly prohibited by law.
