Artist Statement:
Statement
André Pillay
I am a self-taught artist.
My inspiration is drawn from many sources including nature , emotions , architecture , metaphors , history, the abstract , places , symbolism , illusion and interpreted in my own way.
The paintings I do are acrylics ; mixed-media on canvas with sea , landscape and emotional themes . Seeking to capture the beauty , light and spirit of places and emotion. Other paintings portray a more contemporary abstract , organic and textured approach with a spontaneous feel. Colour and sweeping brushstrokes all convey a certain energy to my paintings. Subtle nuances give suggestion to something familiar .
Implementing certain ideas , thoughts and emotions in the beginning do not necessarily stay that way. I enjoy the surprises of creating work subconsciously sometimes. I aim to let the viewer connect and feel these places (emotions) , both real and imaginary . I hope to portray work that is timeless and beyond boundary's of a trend , where you may feel inspired and uplifted.
