Artist Statement for Ran Andrews

|
I suppose the best description of Ran's production to date would be diverse multi-media. After a lifetime of eclectic work encompassing the full spectrum of the visual arts he has become internationally known for his creative advertising campaigns, graphic art, book design, new media and in the last few years his bold, vibrantly colourful expressionist paintings. . .Artists Without Frontiers, London UK 2003
Career Stuff
Advertising
In the 1980’s Ran was a managing partner and creative director of Ideas and Solutions a full service boutique advertising agency in Detroit, Michgan. Over a four year involvment he worked on numerous accounts in the eighth largest market in the United States.
Graphic Art and Book Design
Over the years numerous graphic art ventures have come and gone including magazine layout and design, posters, cd covers and media packaging. Ran held the position of design and production coordinator for Breakwater Books, where he was responsible for all trade and educational books and promotional materials.His work can be seen on the shelves of better bookstores worldwide and includes: Liar (cover) by Joanna Gosse; The Wide World Dreaming by JoAnne Soper Cook; The Viking Discovery of America by Helge and Anne Stine Ingstad; Flashes From The Past by Frank Kenned and Death By Chocolate by Ross A. Klein.
Web Design
From April 20 1998 to April 20, 2002, Ran was the creator and designer of informatron.com. The scheduled four year independent new media project successfully drew to a close. The site drew in excess of 3.5 million visitors and was honoured to have beeen nominated in the prestigious 'most entertaining' website category of the Streamers 99 Award for Excellence in Streaming Media.
Independent media
For three years Ran was under contract with Troma Entertainment, (the oldest independent film studio in the world and home of the world famous Toxic Avenger ) to provide new media, and characters and content as a partner in the now sadly ended Tromaville.com the virtual city of cutting edge independent media.
Ran says, " Thanks Toxie, for all the cool memories, it's been great fun and it's an honour being part of the Troma tradition of renegade independent film, art and music. Don't give up the fight for truly independent media and continue the crusade to give art back to the people."
Ran is currently concentrating on establishing an atelier of fine art in St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada . His expressionist paintings and works in chinese brush are are found in private and corporate collections of contemporary art worldwide.
