Artist Statement:
My initial endeavors as an artist were in the field of Commercial Art. Like many other Artists before me I experimented with an interesting mix of media since Art School, Pen and Ink, Calligraphy, Watercolor, and Oil and Acrylic Painting. I began, as many artist, with drawing, which then became a career as an Illustrator. During these years as a Commercial Artist, I was blessed with no less than five children, all creative and intelligent individuals. So I had much more to keep me busy than being an Artist.
After years of marriage an staying "at Home" with the kids ( now grown), It was impossible to break back into the Commercial Art field. I had also become a painter during my child rearing years and thus began to paint sets for a theater in the small town of Vincennes,Indiana, where I lived at the time and during my marriage. In 1990 I returned to my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky to begin my new career as a painter.
Most of my current work is LARGE, actually on walls, and mostly commissioned work that I design myself. I have painted Murals for the City of Louisville, The Louisville Free Public Libraries...

| Your Personal Biography |
Born and raised in Louisville,Ky by a talented mother, Catherine Annette (Craven) Jones who sang like an angel. Had three brothers and two sisters. All Creative 3 artists, an Interior designer, and a creative machinist!
I was the one at Valley High School who they said should marry or go to Vocational school. I wasn't college material. Although Art was the only thing at the time I thought I did well. I even bribed teachers with my Art to get through.
I did go to Vocational school after the first marriage ( had a son~an Artist too!) didn't work out. Learned all about offset printing and how all I wanted to do was be a Graphic Artist. In that way I could support my son John and daughter Tracy.
After climbing up that ladder about half way I married and moved to Hoosierville (Vincennes,Indiana). Had three more wonderful sons, Eric,Nathan, and Frank. Went to college and then another divorce came. Guess I just can't make that trip work! Moved back to Louisville, Ky and don't think I will ever leave again!
After learning Computer graphics and all of that I still could not get a job as a Graphic Artist there were just too many of us after computers! So I began painting Murals and after a few freebys developed a good reputation in Louisville as a Mural, trompe loeil', and canvas painter.
I have painted in four public libraries here in Louisville. painted three Large Gallopalooza Horses( local public art project) and many of the smaller ones they come out with for the Ky. Derby each year. One of the Large horses is on permanent display at Churchill Downs racetrack.
I have painted many Murals both public and Private in Kentucky and Indiane and participate in Annual Home shows each year mostly doing murals but occasionally a Faux finish.
I now have a Grandaughter and am proud of the time spent on family. My children are now all great adults. Now I am trying to get my BFA at the University, but I have to say they don't appreciate self taught painters. So I must work extra hard! |
