Artist Statement:
My drawings were important and numerous from the beginning of my furniture building career. Over time they evolved into a flamboyance and reverence for color. Now as I design and build, I try to remain as true to the drawings as I can so that the spontaneity and freshness will be carried into the furniture, giving the same intrinsic quality of the drawing to the work. My challenge has become to carry the ethereal quality of the drawings into solid wood forms.
Other interests are combining ideas with visual and tactile experiences as in, "Coming In, Going Out, Going In, Coming Out." This piece moves visually and materially from the forest to the chair and back again.
More recently I have been focused on a series of pastel drawings that are generating pieces that include graffitti, color and images that add new aspects to furniture as art....
