Artist Statement:
I was born in Los
Angeles, California, in 1976.
After moving to San Francisco
in 1996, I attended City
College and studied sculpture
at the College’s Fort Mason
Art Campus. I learned to weld
and immediately became
addicted to creating sculpture
and collecting metal. I found
my true passion in life:
creating art using metal as my
medium. To expand my
technical knowledge, I worked
for several years as a welder
in a custom metal fabrication
shop in Oakland, California.
I learned many valuable
metal-working skills, which I
apply to my art. At the same
time, I became the Teacher’s
Assistant and Laboratory
Technician for the Sculpture
Department at City College. I
currently live and work in San
Francisco, California. My
studio is located at Hunters
Point Shipyard. My work has
been included in over 75
collections throughout the
United States.
The process for each
of my one-of-a-kind welded
steel sculptures begins as I
visit various scrap yards and
metal shops searching for
pieces of metal with unique
shapes and interesting
textures. In my studio I keep
large stockpiles of material
from which I work and receive
inspiration. I never draw a
