Artist Statement:
Jewelry isn't always for simple ornament. It can also act as a symbol, a glimpse of a person's depth. I strive to create designs that possess depth of meaning while subtly presented as ornament. I offer original designs and each piece is unique, hand carved and cast in my studio.
My primary influences are the natural world and the various myths and stories of the past that have shaped our relationship to objects until recent days. I hope to develop an updated synthesis of the symbolic value of this legacy and achieve a total aesthetic that is modern and comprehensive in its sweep.
My new focus, represented in the shift from painting to fine craft, lies in the relationship between the materially cognitive functionof our mind and the phenomenology of our experiences. Within that space exist an entrancing array of symbols, resurfacing images and a continued sinuous relationship to the natural world.
I work in a tension between the scientific and the magical, a place where our memories appear to be more accurate than present reality, or at least preferable by many reports.
I also enjoy changing my statement annualy....
