Artist Statement:
I see my work as a relatively simple presentation of natural objects and places. Early on I found the Japanese sumi-e paintings to be very wonderful and often mystical. In the interplay between two opposite and fundamental colors of white and black; the shapes of the objects in view become heightened. Placement on the paper, usually off center, sets up a tension and can be very emotional. Instead of a white paper, the object is in an indeterminate space blending into a dark background, using the light to delineate the form and its nuances.
