Artist Statement:
Richard Shaw was born in
Scotland in 1949. He grew up
in London and arrived in New
Zealand in 1984 where he has
lived in Glen Innes and has
now resided in Beach Haven for
the last five years.
Richard has no formal
qualifications but has studied
life and art and uses these in
his subjects.
His work reflects his
experiences literally,
emotionally & his knowledge of
materials & tools enables him
to produce fine works of art
in a multimedia form.
At present he is working on
flat panel aluminium,
predominantly inspired by New
Zealand’s coastlines producing
fine seascapes.
His last major work appeared
at the Lake House Takapuna in
January 2004 and consisted of
216 life size wooden people
titled ‘Humanity’ representing
all life at one given time....
