Artist Statement:
Ricardo Somocurcio usally
works with tide material found
at beaches around Bilbao,
Spain.
He tries to teamwork with the
ocean, finishing with respect
the things, the ocean began.
Autodidact artist, inspirated
by the marine shapes,
dedicating his whole life to
activities around the sea,
like fishing, surfing,
lifeguard among others.
Obra de caracter autodidacta,
inspirada por la fuerza del
mar y sus
constantes cambios.
Es el mismo mar quien
proporciona los materiales
utilizados en la creacion
de las obras, las cuales,
estan realizadas en diferentes
maderas (roble,
haya, ekalipto etc.)
transportadas por las mareas
hasta los acantilados.
La mayoria de las obras estan
hechos en madera, porque al
ser un material vivo,
conserva gran parte de sus
caracteristicas naturales como
color, tacto etc.
La tecnica es manual,
realizada con herramientas
basicas de corte tales como
hacha, navaja, gubias y en su
elaboracion se ha intentado
respetar tanto el
desgaste como las formas dadas
por el mar, por lo que son
obras de dificil
repetition....
