Artist Statement for Ralph Mcknight

I was born in washington, D.C.. Before I began to explore the wonderful world of visual art I played music for several years mainly in jazz circles with my own jazz quintets, sextets and trios along with several jazz notables. Much of my art is a visual rendering of my interpretation of the music I listen to and play. My art, as well, reflects the geometrical shapes and lines so common in the mathematics I encountered as a student of electrical engineering.
The use of vivid, exciting colors in abstract is where i find the greatest pleasure. I've now begun to apply my work to a variety of exciting mediums including fabrics, ceramic tiles, posters, album covers etc. I have exhibited in the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena,California and the California African American Museum in Los Angeles. In this pursuit of beauty and excitement through color, I feel i've finally begun to give full birth to the artistic inspiration endowed in me by my father who was, himself, an artist.
All of my designs are available as prints, ceramic tiles or tiled murals. All of my designs are also available as exclusive designs for fabrics and designer carpetry.
All art will be signed prior to shipping.
