Artist Statement for Robert Hon Chan

It is an illusion that the emotions and feelings appear in my paintings. After all, feelings are subjective matters; they must be privately experienced and are not themselves visible.
I incorporate the illusion of both forms and colors into my paintings. The elements of cool and warm colors are carefully selected to bring the audiences into a sense of depths and dimensions. It is the illusion which created a three-dimensional image on the flat surface of the painting. The cool and warm colors bring the eyes of the viewer in and out of the illusion called "Space". Feeling appears as an illusion, and it is observed by the viewers.
For many people these kinds of qualities (feelings and emotions) are so important; that they are the works worth attending to in the first place, and even what called them art.
