Artist Statement:
There is that persistent philosophical question about a tree falling in the forest: If there is no one there to hear it, does it make a sound? I believe it does not. Rather, it just produces vibrations. Similarly, it is only when a newly-created object (visual or aural) is viewed that it becomes art. It is the dialog between the viewer and created work that is art. When a new object stimulates another individual’s thoughts, emotions, beliefs or ideas, the dialog begins and art exists.
I have been an abstract artist for 40 years, and an abstract ceramicist for the last 4 years. In my work you can see the influences of Mondrian, Klee, Hofman, Albers, Baziotes, Still, Miro, Picasso and numerous contemporary artists, including ceramicist, Paul Volkus. But the uniqueness of my work is that I have brought those influences to ceramics. I use clay as a means of emotional expression
