Artist Statement:
As an abstract painter, I
create whatever comes into my
head. I rarely begin with a
plan or an idea. The blank
canvas does not intimidate me.
I welcome its challenge; the
opportunity to start with
nothing and create magic.
Moving the fluid pigment
against the raw surface
creates the magic. I move
around the canvas as I work. I
must confess that I have
painted while holding a canvas
in the air or upside down. I
take pleasure in watching the
beads of paint roll, the thick
globs drip and the brush
strokes widen. The great joy
in the work I do is watching
an image transform. I then
watch it take shape and design
according to its own path and
direction.
My work is fluid because it
moves, it dances and it
transforms into what at first
I see, and later into what the
observer sees. The image is
different for viewers based
upon their gazing ball. The
final product results from my
dance steps with the paint set
against the cloth surface. My
paintings move; they change
and they are filled with
energy much like me.
