Artist Statement for Manas Roy

My art of painting and sculptures come from a very quiet place of my heart. I like to work with expressions of the human form in abstraction, the energy derived from that, the limit it reaches. The energy of the body, its motion comes from the source of his or her reserve of the mind which is reflected in respective expressions of my work. I aim to capture this energy or dynamicity through the expressions and reveal it through my paintings or sculpture forms.
A posture only captures a fraction of the total movement of oneself. But the expressions reveals the total movement – body, mind and sometimes soul. I am always thriving to touch and feel that through my work. Essentially all my work has to be firmly rooted in drawing. The human form plays a major element in them. I am trying to continuously to portray the seamless bonding between man and nature in my works. My work has to satisfy my urge for creatively. It has to give me happiness first before I can share. Then I want people to be connected to them and find a relationship of thought and provocation and not leaving it in isolation. I am continuously making a choice of portraying what is only positive in life within its negativity. It must be a form which needs to be true, universal and beautiful. All the lives flow like a river and met the ocean of eternity one day. I want through my work, my soul to become eternity and not just meeting it.
