Artist Statement:
Ruth Davis incorporates found
and familiar objects into
mixed media sculptures, story
boxes, artist books and
installations. Her artworks
are visual narratives that
explore common themes through
a literal lens. Her series of
82 Walking Shoes explores the
idea that our shoes reflect
how we walk through life.
Rubber Lovin’ is a visual
interpretation of pop singer
Macy Gray’s lyrics, “spread
your rubber lovin’ and it
bounces back to you.”
“The joy of making art,” Davis
says, “is pulling the written
words off the page and
transforming them into objects
with redefined meaning.”
In addition to creating her
own art, Davis has spearheaded
the collaborative works, The
Community Prayer Flags
installation, The Canopy of
Vows, The Exquisite Tree and
The Birthday Light Party. For
each project she invited a
variety of artists to create
individual pieces that, when
assembled together, created
the single, larger work.
Davis also leads workshops
that inspire others to
reconnect with their own
creativity and discover new
ways to share their own
stories.
